Establishing a business in Spain: The Sociedad Limitada

Foreign investors interested in starting a business in Spain must choose the most appropriate legal form amongst those provided by the Spanish Law. There are several alternatives which can be considered, encompassing from the establishment of a business by the investor itself -either through the formation of a company or a branch or through the pursuit of the activity directly by an individual entrepreneur-, to the usage of a joint venture with other enterprises already established in Spain.

Amongst the alternatives foreseen within the Spanish legislation, we would like to make focus on the most widely spread legal form used when implementing a business in Spain: the limited liability company, known as Sociedad Limitada (S.L.). Attached you will find an informative note whereby the key characteristics of the S.L., as well as the main steps required to incorporate this type of company, are explained.
